In this short article, we’ll introduce one of the applications of Automations in Ergonode PIM. Stay tuned for more updates and the exact release dates of this feature.
With Automations coming to our platform in the coming weeks, we’d like to share an example of how this feature can help you improve the management of your data.
Automations will save you from chaos, complaints and returns
Managing product data comes with its challenges, particularly when it comes to completing and updating product information.
In stores that sell thousands of products, this seemingly simple task can quickly become overwhelming. Imagine a situation where a supplier updates a crucial piece of information affecting hundreds of product variations. The challenge isn’t just making the manual updates—it’s also ensuring that your live website displays only accurate information. Otherwise, you risk customer complaints and returns—and nobody wants that, right?
Fortunately, Ergonode’s PIM platform is introducing a powerful new feature designed to handle such situations—and solve many other problems along the way.
For this short demo, we’ve chosen to showcase how you can automatically fill in product information based on a specific condition.
Automation example - Automated attribute updates
Our example is a fashion store that sells, among other products, dresses. With the arrival of many new products, the owner decided to set up a simple automation that fills product attributes based on the the fabric that the dress is made from. Since fabrics have unique properties, which require specific care instructions, we decided that the fabric attribute can determine specific instructions.
Think of this condition as a piece of information, that - based on its characteristic - is supposed to identify other attributes. In this case, the attribute that will define the rest is “100% cotton”.
Our example features a fashion store that sells, among other products, dresses. With the arrival of many new items, the owner decided to set up a simple automation that fills in product attributes based on the fabric used in each dress. Since different fabrics have unique properties requiring specific care instructions, we determined that the fabric attribute could define the appropriate instructions.
Think of this condition as a piece of information that, based on its characteristics, determines other attributes. In this case, the defining attribute is "100% cotton."

Since we want this rule to be applied to any new product, as well as all the ones that were updated with this attribute change, this automation also includes the trigger - “when Product created or updated”.
The next step is to define what is supposed to happen, when we create or update a product, and its “Fabric” attribute is set to “100% Cotton”.
In this example, we’ve added several attribute changes. All of them are listed on the right-hand side, in the panel that appears upon clicking on a given automation.
As the last step of this configuration, we added one more conditional change, which applies to the “Dry Clean” attribute.
In other words, here’s what’s going to happen:
- When someone creates a new product, or updates the “Fabric” attribute of an existing product,
- And if the “Fabric” attribute is set to “100% Cotton”,
- Then specific attributes will change their values.
Since we want this rule to apply to both new products and those updated with this attribute change, the automation includes the trigger “When Product Created or Updated.”
The next step is to define what should happen when a product is created or updated and its “Fabric” attribute is set to “100% Cotton.”
In this example, we’ve added several attribute changes, all of which are listed on the right-hand side in the panel that appears when you click on a specific automation.
As the final step of this configuration, we included one more conditional change that applies to the “Dry Clean” attribute.
In other words, here’s what will happen:
- When a new product is created or the “Fabric” attribute of an existing product is updated,
- And if the “Fabric” attribute is set to “100% Cotton,”
- Then specific attributes will automatically update their values.

Once the changes are saved, we can move to the catalog view, where all the store’s products are displayed.
In this case, the products are various dresses, some of which are made from 100% cotton.

After selecting one of them—the “Sunny Delight Dress”—we navigate to the product catalog page template. This is where we see the automation in action. At this stage, it’s only 40% complete, and the entire “Care Instructions” section is still empty.

Instead of manually clicking through multiple attributes—which can be overwhelming, especially for products with dozens of them, like electronics—we’ve established that the Fabric attribute determines the rest, from washing temperature to drying and ironing details.
Thanks to automation, we only needed to select “100% Cotton”…

… and the rest of the attributes were automatically populated.
Less clicking, more time saved - yay 🎊
