A search engine can be a powerful driver of conversion - but only when it has the right fuel: data.

And working with product data is a bit like building with LEGO.

If you only have a handful of blocks, you won’t build what the customer actually expects.

Only when you add more elements - attributes, descriptions, relations, keywords - does the final structure become complete and understandable for both the customer and the search engine.

Take the example of a face cream:

If your data doesn’t include that a “regenerating cream” is also a “soothing cream,” a “face cream,” and a “cream with high urea content,” the search engine won’t be able to connect these concepts when a customer searches for something very specific.

The conversation also touches on a challenge familiar to all growing e-commerce businesses:

the moment an organization starts losing control over product information.

Data comes from countless sources - manufacturers, logistics partners, marketing teams, category managers, SEO specialists, UX teams.
